Dr. Lair completed his Doctor of Music (DM) at The Florida State University, his MM and BM at The University of Kansas, and studied music education at Southeast Missouri State University. He studied performance with Scott Watson, Max Bonecutter, Paul Ebbers, and R. Winston Morris. He studied music education and conducting with Dr. Robert Gifford, Dr. John Lynch, and Tom Stidham. Dr. Lair owns and operates The Tuba Lair, a band instrument repair shop in central Virginia.

Frederick Vaughan
Frederick Vaughan, a Virginia native, is a versatile woodwind and multi-instrumentalist with professional experience ranging from theme park bands, pit orchestras, big bands, wedding bands, military bands, to chamber ensembles. He has performed in 22 countries throughout North and South America during his career. Noteworthy local ensembles include Busch Gardens, Festhaus Band (2004 - 2006), and the US Fleet Forces Band (2007-2011).
